چکیده
Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a rare neurologic condition which usually occurs in patients with leukemia, malignant lymphoma, carcinomatosis, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) or a variety of other chronic disease process or in those on immunosuppressive therapy(l). The diffuse parenchyma! infection is caused by a group B human polyoma virus serotype (JC virus)(2). In children, it is even more fatal than adults(3).

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy developing in a fludarabine naïve patient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia
We report a case of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy developing in a fludarabine-naïve patient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. We suggest that progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy should be considered in any chronic lymphocytic leukemia patient with unexplained neurological symptoms. Treatment history does not necessarily require fludarabine. Intrathecal cytosine arabinoside ...
متن کاملPolyomavirus-Associated Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML) in HAART era
Polyomaviruses may cause human disease, particularly in immunocompromised hosts. JCV, one of the members of polyomaviridae family, is the causative agent of the neurological disease progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), which occurs mostly in immunocompromised patients. Progressive Multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a progressive demyelinating disorder of the central nervous sy...

BACKGROUND Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a demyelinating disease of the central nervous system which affects the white matter and is caused by reactivation of the JC polyomavirus. CASE REPORT We report the case of a 63-year-old man with chronic lymphocytic leukemia who was treated with fludarabine; rituximab and fludarabine; fludarabine, cyclophsphamide and rituximab; an...
متن کاملProgressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy in a HIV-Negative Patient with Small Lymphocytic Leukemia following Treatment with Rituximab
We describe a case of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) caused by infection with the human polyomavirus JC virus in a patient with B-cell small lymphocytic leukemia who was treated with rituximab. The first symptoms of PML appeared immediately following the last of five cycles of rituximab, cyclophosphamide and pentostatin. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed changes consistent w...
متن کاملContrast enhancing lesions in progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy: a clinicopathological correlation.
A 60 year old man with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) developed a subacute neurological illness associated with multiple contrast enhancing lesions on CT scan. At autopsy large demyelinating lesions characteristic of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) were found in the right cerebral hemisphere surrounded by a dense leukemic infiltrate. The areas of contrast enhancement, highl...
